Death or hostility conditions

Becomes hostile and leaves permanently for that playthrough if attacked more than once while sleeping, or if the Lordvessel is placed without his involvement (i.e. the player instead goes through Kaathe). Source states he does not die outright -- he simply stops interacting if made hostile.

Keeps selling if hostile survives

Dialogue progression

After both bells ring, introduces himself and explains the player's role as Gwyn's potential successor; directs the player to retrieve the Lordvessel from Anor Londo; upon retrieval, warps the player to Firelink Altar to place it; then tasks the player with collecting four great souls (Nito, Witch of Izalith, Four Kings, Seath); once that's done, acknowledges the player as successor, ending his own active role.
